PLANNING YOUR PROJECT
GENERAL INFORMATION
Clear and easy to follow instructions make Vinylbiz fencing and gates simple to install. Although vinyl material expands more easily than wooden fence, the same techniques are used for installation. Vinylbiz and Vinyl Fence America have over twelve years experience working with vinyl material. PLANNING YOUR PROJECT
If you intend to install your own fence or gates, you need to plan before you order your vinyl material:
- sketch a drawing of the area you intend to fence in on this printable grid provided on our web site.
- mark the location and dimensions of the gate openings and swing.
- mark locations and sizes of corner posts and gate posts.
- fax the drawing to Vinylbiz for your cost estimate. · a supervisor will either fax an estimate to you, or phone if more information is needed.
- talk with your neighbors to get their approval if you share a fence.
- talk with your association, if you have one, about necessary approvals.
- visit or phone your local city hall to ask for local codes and ordinances regarding fences, patio covers, and gates. Where existing fence or patio covers are being replaced, permits are not usually required. But please investigate before your order or install.
- Check with your local power company regarding underground power lines or cables.
TERRAIN
When your ground is even, the top rail of the fence line should be kept level and any adjustment that is necessary should be made by changing the post height. Picket or rail fence adjusts easily for uneven terrain. If the area you are fencing presents a significant drop, a stair-step installation may be necessary.
LOCATION OF POSTS
Posts are generally spaced 6' to 8' apart. If you live in a windy climate, 4' to 6' separations may offer more stability. Your local installer should offer advice on post locations for your project.
